Steve Durkin Obituary, Death Cause – Steven J. Durkin, a native of Horseheads, New York, and a resident of Painted Post, New York, died on March 31, 2021 in Painted Post. His age was 56. John Durkin and Carolyn “Corky” Gauss Kennedy had their first child on June 5, 1964, in Corning, New York. The couple bestowed the name Steven for their male offspring. Following the completion of his secondary education at West High School, he proceeded to pursue further studies at Corning Community College, ultimately obtaining an Associate of Arts degree.
At the time of his retirement, he had worked for Corning Incorporated for over 29 years. He derived enjoyment from activities such as golfing, seeing the Yankees and the Bills engage in football, and engaging in woodworking, alongside dedicating time to his family and friends. Steven is considered a legendary character in the history of wiffle ball. Furthermore, he achieved a remarkable batting average of .358 and was honored with the prestigious Gold Glove Award on three occasions throughout his career. His children, Christopher Durkin of Buffalo and Alexis Durkin of Painted Post, survive him.
He is also survived by his father, John (Barb) Durkin of Pine City, and his mother, Carolyn Kennedy of Horseheads, NY. Additionally, he is survived by his brother, Paul (Amy) Durkin of Gulf Breeze, FL, and his sisters, Susan (James) Sonner of Corning and Karen Mazzarese of Lawrenceville, PA. He leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as his aunts and uncles: Chuck (Judy) Gauss of Campbell, Bill Gauss of Leesburg, FL, and Mike (Coleene) Durkin of Caton.
