When celebrities pass away, fans often wonder what happens to their estates, especially if the star had millions in assets as Steve Irwin did. In some cases, fans have no idea where a celebrity's estate will go. Some examples of that include fans wondering if Kirstie Alley left her fortune to her kids and if Cher got money from Sonny Bono's estate.

In 2022, Anne Heche tragically passed away far too early in life and left behind two children. More than a year later, Heche's eldest son, Homer Laffoon, revealed the sad truth that she left behind an estate that was millions in debt.

This article will reveal why Anne Heche's estate owes millions of dollars, according to her son, Homer Laffoon. Then, the article will look at how Laffoon reacted to Heche passing away suddenly.

Anne Heche Left Her Son Homer Laffoon An Estate That Was Millions In Debt

When Anne Heche passed away in August 2022, many people treated that like it was the end of the story. However, the news of Heche's passing was far from the end of things for her loved ones. That is especially true for Heche's eldest son, Homer Laffoon.

In April 2024, People gained access to court documents that Laffoon filed with the government. According to People's reporting on those documents, they reveal that the estate Heche left behind was millions of dollars in debt.

According to the documents, Heche's estate owes roughly $6 million to creditors, which is truly remarkable. On top of that, Heche's estate doesn't have anywhere close to that kind of money in assets.

Based on People's reporting, it seems like Heche's eldest son, Homer Laffoon, is the one who is trying to sort out his mother's estate. That would be a very difficult position for Laffoon to be in, given that he would still be mourning his mother and he was only 22 years old in April 2024.

Did Tupac's Sister Inherit His Estate After Suing The Executor For Allegedly Embezzling Millions Of Dollars?

Rap legend Tupac Shakur's sister Sekyiwa Shakur believes that the manager of his estate has stolen millions of dollars from his family.

According to People's report, the court documents detail what assets that that Heche's estate has. The outlet reports that the estate's assets are valued at roughly $110,000. People quotes the legal documents which list the estate's assets.

"[The assets consist of a] modest bank account, royalty payments and other residual income from pre-death projects, a corporation in which the Decedent was the sole shareholder (used for projects in development and business functions related to Decedent’s career in the entertainment industry), an LLC membership interest related to a podcast Decedent helped create and tangible personal property items."

People's report also reveals that seven creditors are seeking more than $6 million combined.

As it turns out, the majority of the debts that Heche's estate was grappling with were accumulated during the actor's life. Heche's estate appears to owe roughly $4 million to four creditors for reasons that People's reporting didn't reveal.

Tragically enough, however, some of the estate's debts were incurred at the moment of Heche's passing.

In August 2022, Anne Heche sadly lost her life after a car she was driving at an estimated speed of 90/mph hit a house. The injuries that Heche suffered due to that crash ultimately took her life.

In December 2022, Anne Heche's autopsy revealed that she lost her life due to fatal burns and smoke inhalation. The autopsy also concluded that Heche wasn't impaired by alcohol or illegal substances at the time of her high-speed crash.

On top of the crash tragically killing Heche, it also led to her estate owing a staggering amount of money.

According to People's reporting on the legal documents, the owners of the home Heche crashed into were seeking to be paid for the destruction that was done. On top of that a woman who was renting the home Heche crashed into was seeking money for her belongings that were destroyed.

According to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, Homer Laffoon likely won't have to pay Anne Heche's debts. Even though Laffoon seems to be in charge of his mother's estate, the only way he would have to pay its debts is if he co-signed on some of Heche's loans. Even in that case, Laffoon would only have to pay for the debts he co-signed for.

Between the couple who owned the home and the renter, the three of them were seeking $2 million from Heche's estate.

Ultimately, Heche's son, Homer Laffoon, told the court that the estate can't pay the roughly $6 million that it owes.
